Calculate the payment amount and savings for early-payment terms such as 2/10 Net 30.
2/10 Net 30 means the customer can deduct 2% from the invoice if payment is made within 10 days. Otherwise, the full invoice amount is due within 30 days.
Discount = invoice amount × discount percentage. Discounted payment = invoice amount − discount.
$10,000 × 2% = $200. $10,000 − $200 = $9,800.
For the buyer, giving up a 2% discount in exchange for 20 additional days to pay can represent a high annualized financing cost.
For the seller, offering the discount reduces invoice revenue but may accelerate cash collection.
An early payment discount is conditional on paying by a certain date. An invoice discount reduces the invoice price regardless of payment timing.
An early payment discount rewards faster payment. A late fee charges an additional amount when payment arrives after the agreed deadline. Use the Late Payment Fee Calculator to estimate a late fee on an overdue invoice.
Early-payment terms should be agreed with the customer and clearly stated on the invoice. Accounting and tax treatment may vary depending on the transaction and jurisdiction. This calculator does not provide accounting, tax, or legal advice.
